Seeking a Movement Instructor - Beat Boxing (Cardio Kickboxing) + Power45
Pivot is a neighborhood movement studio rooted in music, community, and joyful, non-technical movement. We’re looking for an instructor to lead Beat Boxing (our cardio kickboxing class) and Power45. This person is deeply connected to music, loves to move, and knows how to bring people along for the ride. This role is about more than teaching a workout. It’s about creating an experience that feels energizing, expressive, and welcoming to everybody in the room.
Class Focus
You’ll primarily be teaching Beat Boxing, our cardio kickboxing class, and may also have the opportunity to teach Power45, our strength + HIIT format. Both are signature Pivot classes developed by founder Lauren Kawa Funk.
We’re looking for an instructor who is excited to train directly with Lauren to learn and deliver these proven, high-demand formats with consistency, energy, and care.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead high-energy, music-driven Beat Boxing classes
-
Option to teach Power45, our strength + HIIT class
-
Learn and deliver established class formats with clarity and consistency
-
Teach movement in a way that is accessible, encouraging, and grounded in joy rather than perfection
-
Use clear, effective verbal cueing to guide participants through movement and transitions
-
Hold space for a room of adults (primarily 30s–50s) with a wide range of experience levels
-
Contribute to a strong sense of community before, during, and after class
Who You Are
-
Deeply musical. You feel music instinctively and move with it. Specifically pop music
-
A natural performer who brings energy and presence to the room
-
Able to quickly learn and memorize songs and choreography
-
Comfortable teaching movement through verbal cues - there are no mirrors in the studio
-
Passionate about movement as a joyful, expressive experience
-
Warm, inclusive, and community-oriented
Background & Experience
-
Dance background required (does not need to be technical or formal training)
-
Experience teaching group movement classes is preferred
-
A love of choreography and/or experience creating movement is a plus
-
Additional experience in strength training, functional movement, mobility work, or somatic practices is a plus
Growth & Opportunity
While this role begins with learning and teaching established classes, instructor development is core to how Pivot operates. Pivot was built by developing original classes rooted in what instructors love. Lauren herself grew Pivot by crafting and refining her own dance-based class, which now regularly fills the room.
We’re looking for someone who is excited to step into an existing, in-demand format — and over time, grow into creating and leading movement experiences of their own. This is a unique opportunity to step into classes that already have demand and momentum, while being supported in developing your own voice as an instructor.
Lauren is looking to bring on the right instructor to train, support, and trust with these classes — someone who can deliver a consistent, high-quality experience so we can expand offerings and build on what’s already working.
About Pivot
Pivot is a movement studio in the Woodlawn neighborhood of NE Portland, designed to feel welcoming from the moment you walk in. We offer classes to youth and adults that are all-levels, non-technical, and rooted in music, expression, and connection. There are no benchmarks or expectations — just a space to feel at home in your body and part of a supportive community. We use pop music and cultural touchstones to spark nostalgia and reconnect you with the version of yourself who danced freely and found joy in movement. At Pivot, the only mirrors are on the disco ball, and the best dancer is the one who is having the most fun.
Reach out Lauren at hello@thisispivotpdx.com if you are interested in this position. Thank you!
